Today I’m supposed to be a review stop on this “Whichwood” blog tour. However, this past weekend, when I had scheduled myself to read this gorgeous book, I learned that my grandmother passed away. One rushed day preparing for travel, one entire day of car travel, and then the days since preparing for a funeral and cleaning her home has (obviously) trumped my reading plans.

First thing first, I’ve still got all the tour stops down below so please keep up with the other bloggers and their posts about this gorgeous book!

Second, I will be fulfilling my review and updating this post once I return home, but wanted to talk a little about “Whichwood" from what I already know. If you’ve already read “Furthermore” by Mafi, then you’ll be delighted to know that “Whichwood” is an extension of that world! (and Alice and Oliver will be in the story!)

I read “Furthermore” last year and had some mixed feelings. Tahereh’s writing is whimsical and straight up gorgeous, but some times I felt like it was more about gorgeous and crafty prose than plot. Still, there is something about her style and imagination that is compelling, and I had a copy signed to my daughter when she came here for a signing. It’s waiting on my daughter's bookshelf for the day she will encounter it. It’s just got a lot of fun and quirky elements to it, which I think can make for really delightful reading for kids.

But “Whichwood” is supposed to have a darker tone, and it’s also inspired by Persian traditions, which is really compelling to me. (also, the cover speaks for itself. All the heart eyes) So even though I had determined that maybe Mafi's writing wasn’t my preferred reading style, I couldn’t stay away from the promise of this new story. And honestly, I think that bit of fun and whimsy she writes into her books is exactly what I need right now.

(“Whichwood” can be read as a standalone, so you don’t need to read “Furthermore” first, even though there will be some crossover.)
